Min Xiao-Fen

A pipa soloist with the famed Nanching National Music Orchestra and top prize winner in pipa competitions throughout China, Ms. Min has had many major performances in the United States since her arrival in 1992, including Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, Lincoln Center in New York.  Her CD “The Moon Rising” (Cala Records – UK) a collection of traditional and contemporary works for pipa and ruan, was hailed by BBC Music Magazine as “one of the best CDs of 1996.”  In 1997, “Spring, River, Flower, Moon, Night” (Asphodel) a set of traditional solo repertoire, was released.  “Her new album is one of the most astonishing displays of virtuosity on a plucked-string instrument that you’ll ever hear, guaranteed to give even the finest Western guitarist, lutenist, mandolinist or banjo player a lingering inferiority complex.”  Clarke Bustard  - Richmond Times-Dispatch
